Getting Clear on Why You Write
For many of us when we start out as aspiring writers the goal is to see our name in print. Yet for me and indeed for a lot of the authors I speak to each month, the real driver - that which motivates us to pick up a pencil or take hold of that keyboard - is for us to get our message heard.
When you visit your own motivations around the wonderful world of writing, what is it that tugs at you, that seeks your attention, and which demands you get on with the process of writing?
There are often days when I don’t write anything, but these normally happen simply because I don’t commit to write, and don’t look at the process at all. By contrast, the day I am clear about what I want to address in my writing is also the day that the ink flows and the output is decent.
By clearing the distractions that come with being unfocussed you allow yourself to write that which matters and that which matters is almost always that which speaks to you clearly.
